The sun's rays permeated between the cracks of the standing towers of metal buildings, softly smothered by the ever expansive steam pouring out of the pipework down below. The cobblestone roadways were choked with the constant flow of moving bodies-citizens, each with their own agenda, walking on towards whatever life had to offer them.

The capital of Lon Aberus was known for its diversity; every man and woman from every walk of life converged in this, central point, in order to find prosperity. In spite of the obvious nobility that ruled over the land, the freedom of the people was found to be most abundant here, as the citizenry had a special kind of tenacity to hold up their own; the communities abundant with passion and empathy.

And, of course, this included the outlawed magi.

Despite the long, bloody inquisition forced upon them from nary a century ago, the magi had come back, once again, striving and powerful as they ever were. Some say allowed by the leniency of the monarchy, after having lost so many of the country's people in their active war against the magi. Yes, the times that ravaged the lands those years ago was certainly terrible. So, while the monarchy has the laws against the sanctum of magi, it is generally believed that for the good and peace of its people, it suffers the spare magus under its nose for just a little while longer.

However, that's not to say that magi are allowed to do whatever they please. Quite the contrary. Despite the fact that the growing communities and organizations of underground magi are more than abundant and influential over the political affairs of Lon Aberus, and, in turn, the nation of Systus, public executions of magi are still often a weekly event.

The key difference between yesteryear and the modern day being the idea that these executions used to be daily, and in the dozens. It was said you could see the blood of the heretics running down the streets from noon to dusk, their heads riddling the city walls and their bodies more prosperous than there was graves to put them in.

Some people criticize the monarchy for growing soft.

Well, the populace has reason to fear. The church has told tales of the destructive heresy of magi for centuries. "The gift of angels," they spoke, "The gift which made the Dead God kill the Heavens."

And with knowledge of the inhuman practices and witchcraft which has become kin to the development of "magic", it is only natural that people fear a magus.

The common folk who roam the streets of Lon Aberus-they see the horror of the magi in every single orphan kidnapped, every vagabond who turns up bruised and stilled in the alleyways. They need not the church to tell them how frightening the magi can be.

To them, the magus is nothing more than the monstrous nobles who stay in the central districts of Lon Aberus.

Perhaps that is where the mutual hatred of magi and noblemen is born; from their kindred ideologies in power, and their views on those they deem beneath them.

The affairs for power are chaotic and forever churning in Lon Aberus, as each and every person who lusts for it claws their way through whoever stands before them. The fights are brutal behind closed doors, in the dead of night, and the city's restlessness shows no sign of ceasing.

What, ultimately, will circumstances lead to? That is a mystery beyond our knowledge.

"The life you lead when you take the road of magic is nothing but one full of sacrifices, risks, and ultimate despair.

"You will suffer, but for your suffering, you may be granted a reach outside the reach of human imagination. With arms made from the skies.

"If this gamble is worth it to you, than I will teach you the ways of magic."
